Illamasqua - Precision Brow Gel (Including Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade Comparison)

This was my first ever Illamasqua purchase and it wasn't something I originally intended buying. I was infact looking at their oh-so-popular Brow Cake (brow powder) just for a different brow product to try that I could use along side my favourite Anastasia Dip brow Pomade to give a softer effect at the front of my brows.
While looking at the Illamasqua Brow Cake the sales assistant at the counter came over and insisted I try their new Precision Brow Gel- he had me at the word new, I'm always up for trying something a bit different.

As soon as he whipped out the jar of product I thought.. ahh this is going to be just like the Dip Brow Pomade , then he swatched it on his hand with their angled brush and it just looked fantastically smooth and easy to control - I was that impressed with the demo I even bought the brush he used with it too!

The Precision Brow Gel, has more powdery finish to it which I think gives a more natural brow look when used light-handedly. Its also super easy to get that ombre brow effect going on due to its really soft texture.
It lasts all day on the brows come rain or shine and is totally smudge proof, I absolutely love using this its so versatile- you can achieve a lovely natural look by using light strokes or go for something a little more dramatic and sharp by building it up a bit.

This Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel is a Selfridges store exclusive, so you can only but it there online or in-store.
The only down side to this beauty is that its only available in one shade called Strike - I think its a little crazy for them to have just one shade available for a brow product to be honest.
Strike is a cool toned dark brown and pretty much the exact same colour as Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in the shade Dark Brown.
I know a lot of people own the Dip Brow Pomade so this is where I decided It may be helpful to compare the two to see if there is a difference.
I wouldn't call this a "dupe" by the way.. purely because ones not too much cheaper than the other.

Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown Comparison

Top - Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel - Strike
Bottom - Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade - Dark Brown

Top - Illamasqua
Bottom - Anastasia

As you can probably tell from the above swatches the Illamasqua one is slightly more powdery which I think I may prefer-  where-as the Anastasia one gives more sharper stronger lines. They look almost identical...just look at the colour match too!

L-R Illamasqua , Anastasia
Top - Bottom Swatched Heavy, smudged out

I decided to show you the swatches smudged out, just so you could see which looks the most faded after contantly rubbing them both. As you can see they fade the same and both hold out so well
They definately draw a tie in the smudge test.

Top - Illamasqua
Bottom - Anastasia
Now for the finale and where you can really see the difference on the brows, I much prefer the look the Illamasqua one gives as I think it makes my brows look a lot more natural and fuller (they never look full usually), where-as the Anastasia one gives more of a striking and sharper look.

I find it easer to work with the Illamasqua one if I'm being honest ,I prefer the slightly more powdery finish to it- the Anastasia one is a lot more gel-like and I like to use this more for the tail end of my brows for a stronger more precise look.
I really enjoy using both products it just depends on what look I fancy on the day really. There isn't a huge difference in these products they even have the same amazing staying power, I didn't think id ever find another brow product that I like as much (or maybe even a little bit more) than the dip brow, so im truly impressed with my first delve into Illamasqua. Plus the customer service I received there was brilliant and made everything so much more pleasant.

Have you tried Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel? Can you see any difference between the two? If so which brow look do you prefer?

Thanks For Reading,
Love Zoe x

They seem like such an amazing brand I feel I should try more from them, it's just hard as I can't swatch because I don't live near any counters, it's always nice to look in real life I think xx

  9. If I had dark eyebrows I would be picking it up but I definitely agree with the weirdness of only bringing one shade out for eyebrows! Then again I am having to go quite dark on mine at the moment as I am growing them out but this really looks lovely! Have you tried the Anastasia Brow Wiz? That is next on my list :) Great review! xx

  21. Yes Gemma! It's brilliant.. If you like the DBP you'll love the illamasqua it's just slightly more powdery which I think makes it a little easier to apply too , I know right!? So many people have said they want it but it's not in their shade.. Such a shame xx

Oh wow, I can't believe how identical they look in the swatches! I can't believe they only have one shade, luckily it looks like my kinda shade, tempted to try this out! I love my dipbrow pomade but it can look a little too much for work whereas this one looks more natural! Fab review xx

  23. Pretty similar aren't they! I know it's a shame really as it's such a great product..yea that's exactly what I thought as I don't always like my brows so sharp and bold xx

  24. I can definitely see how the Illamasqua one looks more natural in the photos - it's lovely! I keep trying to purchase the Dip Brow from Sephora but they are always sold out in store, so I may give this a shot instead!
